ALERTING THE MEDIA
Why should alerting the media be important? It is important because it builds name recognition and increases exposure to the Florida College DECA and Delta Epsilon Chi name. Why would you want to increase name recognition and exposure? More people know of the DECA name than the Delta Epsilon Chi name and do not realize that there is a college division. The use of the Florida College DECA and Delta Epsilon Chi name will assist in increasing the brand recognition.
How do we alert the media and how do we choose which media to alert? We alert the media via press releases. We choose which media to notify by the level of priority of each message we send. For a regular chapter meeting, the best media to alert is the on-campus newspaper, radio, and/or TV station. For a leadership conference, charitable activity like "Good Deed Day", or the results of your chapter's participation in a CDC then alerting local media like your hometown newspaper or local television station would be better candidates as well as your on-campus newspaper, radio and TV stations. You want to be careful to not over-inundate any media outlet with constant bombardment of press releases. Important tips include being as short as possible, as direct as possible, and including a catchy headline that builds interest in the story. Also, make sure to have the contact information for your chapter as well as the exact date, location, and time of your event listed. If you report the event after it has happened, include a picture if possible to increase the chances of getting published. |
