FUNDRAISING SUGGESTIONS

There are many ways to fundraise. Below are some methods that chapters are currently using.

Tuition Raffle: Solicit a free class from your school or get seed money to purchase a class from your chapter members. Go to a local off-campus bookstore and ask for a free used textbook. Finally, purchase or have a local company donate a backpack. Create numbered raffle tickets and start selling them (one ticket for $1 and 6 tickets for $5.) Offer the class as the top prize, the textbook as the second prize, and the backpack as the third prize. The key about this fundraiser is that it must be done every day for about 3 weeks. Night classes can be especially fruitful. On campus flyers are crucial and must tease potential customers with a big headline like "Win Free Tuition." If you are persistent, your chapter can make at least $750.

Bowl-a-thon: Get your student life or student activities center or members to pay for 2 games of bowling at a local alley. Your campus activities person could set up a inter-club bowl-a-thon. Give yourself at least 2 weeks to solicit donations from everyone wherever you go like work, school, home, or even church/temple. The trick on this fundraiser is to be persistent. You can ask for a flat donation like $10, $20, or $50 or a per pin pledge like .25 per pin knocked down. The flat donation is best because then you do not have to be a kingpin to make some real money. You can also collect the flat amount right then and there. You can make as much or as little as you want on this. Some members have made over $500 doing this fundraiser.

Marketing Surveys: Some chapters have made money by tallying surveys from local businesses and organizations. You can make anywhere between 10 and 20 cents each. Your advisor can contact some local agencies that could give you some business. Last spring a chapter made $500 doing this little fundraiser. The trick is getting enough people to consistently count them because typically, there are a lot of them.

Sponsor a Company to Sell On-Campus: Cellular phone and cellular accessory companies, automobile dealers, and automobile associations all would like to have an opportunity to sell their wares on your campus. They will pay to be there. You can charge between $30 and $50 per visit. You should have no more than three appearances per semester per vendor though. Any more than that might not go over well with the powers that be on your campus. There are usually forms that need to be filled out and permission received with this form of fundraiser. If you start early enough and get enough of them, you can earn at least $240 each semester. These are usually low-maintenance fundraisers.

Bake or Food Sales: On-campus bake or food sales can make a dent in your monetary needs. The trick is doing enough of them to raise some real funds. Local companies can donate day-old donuts that you can resell. Warehouse clubs can also be helpful in gathering materials. Coffeehouses will also donate product to advertise their name.
